Northumbrian Water Ouseburn improvements due to start earlier than planned.

Work on the £6m storm overflow project for the Ouse Burn is now expected to begin this autumn, as part of Northumbrian Water’s wider commitment to improving the sewer network and helping to protect local rivers and watercourses.

At Killingworth Lake, Northumbrian Water is working alongside North Tyneside Council to help improve surface water flooding in the area as part of the wider storm overflow improvements that feed into the Ouse Burn.

The first phase of work will start at Killingworth Lake, before moving on to Grassholme Place, Benton Lane and Salters’ Lane. This phased approach will allow the team to deliver improvements in a planned and coordinated way, while keeping local communities informed as the project progresses.

The improvements are designed to strengthen the local sewer network and help reduce the number of storm overflow spills into the Ouse Burn each year.

By creating more capacity and better managing rainwater entering the system, the project will help improve the performance of the network during periods of heavy rainfall and support better water quality in the Ouse Burn.
