Programme Development Manager Appointed for The Ouse Burn Way Project

The Ouse Burn Way Vision partners are pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Balmont as Programme Development Manager. Paul will be leading collaborative efforts over the next two years to drive environmental improvements, enhance public access and reduce pollution within the Ouseburn corridor.

Based at Newcastle City Council, Paul will be working closely with Council teams to develop a series of proposals aimed at delivering broad benefits for the Ouseburn Valley. His role will include working with Newcastle and North Tyneside Councils, as well as the North East Combined Authority, to identify and secure funding from regional and national sources. Paul’s appointment marks a pivotal step in realising this shared vision for a revitalised and sustainable corridor in the heart of Newcastle.

We look forward to seeing the positive impact his leadership will bring.”

Paul brings a wealth of experience in sustainable development and environmental initiatives to his new role. Co-founder of Co-wheels Car Club, one of the UK’s largest car-share operators, Paul spent nearly 20 years helping communities reduce car use and emissions. His work with Co-wheels involved advising global leaders like Toyota and MG UK on mobility strategies and sustainable car-share models.

Before his role at Co-wheels, Paul served as Head of Economic Development at Sedgefield Borough Council, focusing on infrastructure and business support projects. Known for his expertise in partnership building and project management, Paul is deeply committed to fostering positive environmental change, both locally and globally.

The Ouse Burn Way project, supported by Reece Foundation, Newcastle City Council, North Tyneside Council, Northumbrian Water and The Environment Agency, aims to create a cleaner, greener and more accessible Ouseburn Valley.
